The Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park has been declared the best natural destination in Spain by the readers of the prestigious National Geographic magazine. In addition, the Hotel Canfranc Estación de Royal Hideway has also been chosen as the best hotel in Spain , which has already received 30,000 visitors and has a restaurant with a Michelin star.
This is the second edition of these awards, in which readers of the publication choose the best destinations in several categories, after a prior selection process carried out by National Geographic experts. In this way, the Aragonese National Park has received the most votes of the other four finalists: the Selva de Irati, the Sierra de las Nieves, La Gomera and Monfragüe.
In this edition, the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park has been designated as the winner of the best natural destination category. In fact, the four valleys that make up the reserve (Ordesa, Añisclo, Escuaín and Pineta) and the mythical Monte Perdido massif are part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Minister of the Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco, and the general director of the Natural Environment, Alfonso Calvo , attended today the gala in which these awards were presented. “It is the jewel in the crown within the national parks. It is a territory highly protected by the park staff and all the people of Huesca,” said Blasco.
