The pharmaceutical distribution cooperative Novaltia has laid the first stone of the new robotic warehouse it is building in Zaragoza . The new facilities will have a 100% degree of robotization and will allow Zaragoza to have the most advanced and technologically leading pharmaceutical distribution center in the world and Novaltia to be a benchmark in global logistics with the first pharmaceutical warehouse in the world with Passivhause Plus certification which guarantees that it will generate the same energy as it consumes .
Novaltia ‘s new pharmaceutical distribution center will be located in the Puerta Norte industrial estate within the municipality of Zaragoza and will be accompanied by an innovation and sustainability plan applied to the pharmaceutical supply chain in Aragon. Novaltia plans an investment of 25 million euros – 10 million in civil works and facilities, and the other 15 million in warehouse robotization – and the creation of thirty new direct and indirect jobs , which will be added to the jobs already existing ones , whose continuity is guaranteed thanks to this new center.
The launch of this new zero -emission smart warehouse is expected to be operational at the beginning of 2026 and will be the first 100% automated pharmaceutical distribution center, with the most technologically advanced facility in the world, capable of housing 40,000 active references , 80,000 buckets and 2,500 euro pallets . It will also have a production capacity that will reach 200,000 units/day , with 800 shipping ramps.
The new center, which will be located on a plot of 20,000 square meters , will reach 18,000 square meters of constructed area and 14 meters in height and will have a new energy storage system with a hydrogen cell and 1.5MW of photovoltaic production . . The office area will have 3,000 square meters with services for workers. The installation of a vertiport has also been planned to continue the Pharmadron project for the distribution of medicines to pharmacies with drones promoted by the cooperative and Delsat.
This new warehouse will allow Novaltia to advance in innovation and sustainability , reducing emissions and achieving greater fluidity in the supply chain, better order traceability , faster delivery and fewer errors . In addition, it will allow us to reinforce the service to rural pharmacies as a backbone element in these areas.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ARAGON OF THE FUTURE
The president of Aragón, Jorge Azcón , among other institutional figures, attended the ceremony of laying the first stone , who has endorsed this project as an example of the Community “that we are building ”, combining logistics , technology and health . “An Aragon that, like these facilities , has an increasingly solid technological base. An Aragon that, like this new Passivhause Plus warehouse , aspires to sustainability . An Aragón that, like Novaltia , sets a trend in the logistics field,” the president noted during his speech.
Likewise, Azcón has valued the investment made by an Aragonese company , beyond the figures that may entail. “For us, 25 million euros are very important, 30 jobs are very important, but what is extraordinarily important is that it is an investment by pharmacists in our Community ,” he stated.
