At the end of the first half of the year, sales of used passenger cars and SUVs in Aragon reached 25,582 units, registering a 5.2% increase in the year-to-date, according to MSI data for Ganvam (official and independent distributors) and Faconauto (dealers). In June, a total of 4,144 units were sold in the Community, which represented a 4% decrease.

At a national level , sales of used passenger cars and SUVs have already exceeded one million units. This means that they have accumulated a rise of 7.2% at the end of the first half of the year, reaching 1,015,612 units until June, according to the same sources. Thus, 1.9 used cars have been sold for every new vehicle so far this year.

The renewal of fleets by rental companies (RAC) and leasing companies is allowing the second-hand market to be supplied with a supply of young vehicles , which are in high demand due to their quality/price ratio. Specifically, rental companies have increased their operations with used vehicles by 24.5% until June, while leasing operators recorded a growth of 19.3% in the first half of the year.

It is not surprising, therefore, that second-hand vehicles are driving the second-hand market. Thus, models between one and three years old have accumulated an increase of almost 34% until June, with a total of 81,100 units sold. For the sector’s employers’ associations, the good performance of the second-hand vehicle demonstrates its role as a demand booster and, therefore, as a lever to rejuvenate the fleet, at a time when, with a good supply of second-hand vehicles, sales of models between 10 and 15 years old fell by more than 9% until June, to stand at 163,762 units sold.

SECOND-HAND ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES ON THE RISE

Along these lines, data from the sector show how the second-hand market is becoming a guarantee for making zero-emission mobility an affordable option for the general public. Thus, at a time when sales of new electrified vehicles are declining, second-hand models are registering double-digit growth.

In this sense, although diesel is the majority propulsion – with more than half of sales – the truth is that operations with second-hand pure electric passenger cars have accumulated an increase of almost 60% in the first half of the year, reaching 8,597 units, compared to the same period of the previous year. In this case, sales of second-hand plug-in hybrids increased by 90%, reaching a total of 14,475 units until June.
