An octogenarian Frenchman dies after falling into the Aneto glacier

An 83-year-old man from France has died in a mountain accident after falling into a rocky area on the Aneto glacier , within the Posets Natural Park , in the municipality of Benasque . It was some mountaineers who raised the alarm when they found him unconscious on Tuesday, around 12.30 pm, so the Greim de Benasque, an air unit and doctors from 061 were immediately activated.

Once at the scene, the doctor confirmed that the victim had injuries incompatible with life, so the body was evacuated to the Benasque barracks . From there, a hearse took him to the Forensic Anatomical Hospital in Huesca.

The first of them happened at around 2:56 p.m. on Monday, July 15, when a cyclist was riding the path from Sieste to San Martín. The cyclist, a 60-year-old Swiss man, alerted 062 due to a possible contusion to the hip, back and shoulder . The Greim de Montaña and an Air Unit from Benasque were activated, and the injured man was evacuated to Boltaña , where he was later transferred to the Hospital of Huesca.

CYCLISTS IN ACCIDENTS, FRACTURES AND DISCOMFORT DUE TO HEAT

Almost 24 hours later, at around 2.15pm yesterday Tuesday, a call was received that another cyclist had fallen while doing an enduro descent on the Planadona path between Cerler and Anciles, suffering trauma . The relevant rescue services were activated and once the injured person was stabilised at the scene, he was transferred to Barbastro Hospital. The injured man was a 35-year-old man from Castejón de Sos.

An hour earlier, a new alert was received, reporting that a person was in the bed of a river with a possible ankle fracture in the Cuello Estrimera area, in the Sierra de Guara . The person rescued by Greim de Huesca was a 32-year-old French man, evacuated to Monflorite airport and then to the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca by ambulance.

Likewise, several alerts were received from hikers who could not continue their routes due to the heat and general discomfort , such as dizziness or stomach pains. One of them was in the Ibón de Bernatuara area, when a 39-year-old woman had to be rescued.

At the end of the day, at around 9.30 pm, a new alert reported the discomfort of a hiker in the “Estrecho waterfall path” area, in the Ordesa national park , near Torla. Minutes later, another hiker fell in Clavijas de Salarons, also in Torla, injuring her knee.
