Stellantis plans to invest around 4 billion euros in the battery gigafactory it plans to build in Figueruelas , provided that the Spanish government agrees to provide the public aid required by the multinational. So far, the company has received just over 55 million euros for this project, called Antares, and is awaiting the resolution of Perte VEC III , whose application period ends this Friday.

This was conveyed by the President of Aragon, Jorge Azcón , during his participation in Madrid at the breakfast “ Aragon, Technological Hub: Alliances for Investment ” organised by CEOE. There he assured that Stellantis’ commitment to building this gigafactory is “safe”, but “the Government of Spain has yet to decide on the European funds it has allocated for this work”.

During his speech, Azcón highlighted the “technological ecosystem” that will be generated “in the heat” of the investment by Amazon Web Services or Microsoft in the construction of data centers. “
The main challenge we have is not that the investments come, which are already here, although we want more to come. Those that are here are absolutely different . We have to get them to generate an ecosystem around infrastructure, training, conferences and entrepreneurship,” he stressed.

Among the infrastructures that will be built around the data centres is the announced 46-hectare technology park next to the Río Ebro campus. “It is essential to turn the training system towards learning in new technologies. We are going to promote the best technology park in Spain , together with the University of Zaragoza, and not just any qualification, but engineering and technical careers,” said the Aragonese president.

Because Azcón has also set himself the challenge of increasing the number of graduates from the University in the health and technological fields . “The offer of the UZ and other training centers must specialize in what the labor market is going to need exponentially, which is workers specialized in data and Artificial Intelligence,” he said.
