The Teatro Principal is undergoing a makeover during these summer months. No wonder, as it is not always the case that one turns 225 years old and does not aspire to become a Site of Cultural Interest of the Spanish Historical Heritage. It has been a month since the restoration and maintenance works began that will allow the curtain to be raised on September 5 with a new image in the emblematic building. It will be then when one of the great superproductions of this year will premiere: the show Forever Van Gogh.

During these weeks of work, Zaragoza City Council is carrying out various works worth 590,000 euros. Specifically, the coliseum will have new sound equipment, four digital billboards on the façade of the Coso and a new black camera. In addition, the upholstery of 250 units corresponding to the stalls and boxes has also been renewed. On the other hand, the technical control box has been adapted, a closed-circuit camera with continuous recording has been installed in the hall and the ticket offices on Don Jaime street have been completely renovated.

The replacement and restoration of marble tiles in the entrance to the hall has also been carried out , as well as various carpentry, sound and lighting works, in addition to painting different areas of the theatre such as the entrance, the front of the stage, the boxes and the Venetian stucco on the ground floor.

ELEVATOR AND CLOSET

All these reforms are added to the installation of a lift that will be operational this autumn and which will facilitate access to the upper floors of the building. This represents an investment of 200,000 euros. In addition, a cloakroom service, which did not exist until now, will be launched and will operate between November and April.

AN AMBITIOUS ANNIVERSARY

On the 25th it will be 225 years since the Teatro Principal was opened in 1799. In order to offer a celebration worthy of such an event, Zaragoza City Council is continuing to prepare the programme that the public will be able to enjoy throughout 2025, after the shows that will be taking place from 5 September until the end of the year have already been announced . This is the case of Forever Van Gogh, This is Michael, the Opera Tosca or The Art of the Jota, in addition to proposals and faces that are leaders in Spanish drama that will be performing at the Principal in the coming months.

Simultaneously with the artistic proposals, there will be a congress on historical theatres, discussions, historical films, conferences , and actions on social networks, among other initiatives.
