Aitana and Carlos Alcaraz: Aragonese children and young people choose their dream leaders

The singer Aitana and the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz have been chosen by Aragonese children and young people between 4 and 16 years old as their dream leaders or bosses, according to the Adecco survey “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The traditional annual survey that began in 2004 also reveals that the professions that young people want to pursue have not changed much since those first surveys: girls prefer to be teachers or footballers and boys, athletes or police officers.

The truth is that the answers are not a surprise, the Catalan singer attracts a young mass of fans wherever she goes and the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz is living one of the sweetest moments of his career becoming one of the Spanish idols. Although the girls choose Aitana as the best possible boss (10.6%), other outstanding options appear on the list with the footballer Alexia Putellas (8.9%), the mothers of the girls (7.3%), the singer Rosalía (6.1%) or the newest of the top 10: Princess Leonor, Queen Letizia and astronaut Sara García.

Instead, men prefer tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (8.4%) as their boss. Next, they want to work for a friend (7.8%), for the streamer Ibai Llanos (7.1%) and in fourth place they choose Carlo Ancelotti (6.5%). They also choose Leo Messi (3.2%), the singer Saiko or to be their own boss, both options with 2.6% of the votes. The top 10 is rounded off by a woman, the footballer Alexia Putellas (1.9%).

ARAGONESE PEOPLE WANT TO BE FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND DOCTORS

The survey of more than a thousand young people confirms that “they still want to do the same jobs as the young people surveyed 18 years ago”, although it is true that other jobs that did not exist in the past have crept in, such as influencers or streamers.

Once again, girls nationwide dream of being teachers (17.9%), footballers (12.8%), veterinarians (12.3%), singers (8.4%) and doctors (7.3%). Professions such as psychologist, dancer, astronaut (also making a debut in the top 10), cook and influencer complete the top positions, following the current trend.

Boys, on the other hand, still want to be footballers (23%), police officers (11.5%), YouTubers (5.4%), IT professionals (4.7%) and, with a double tie, firefighters and doctors, with 4.1%. Chefs, pilots, streamers and TikTokers complete the top 10, leaving out other professions such as teachers, scientists, engineers, musicians, basketball players and mechanics.

Although in the case of Aragon and other communities such as Asturias, the Canary Islands and the Community of Madrid, girls prefer to be doctors and boys follow the national trend, preferring to be footballers.

The most curious thing is that Spanish boys and girls have included professions such as jota dancer on the list, which are added to other anecdotal ones such as being a brain doctor, a pole diver, a content creator, a drone engineer, a Michelin star chef, an elevator operator, a clothing designer for famous singers, and there are even those who want to be a labor inspector.

THE GAZA CONFLICT OR TAYLOR SWIFT AS THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS

Children were also asked what the most important news of the year was for them and although one in ten responded that they “ don’t know” because they “don’t watch the news ”, for 12.8% it was the conflict in Gaza and followed at a great distance (4.9%) by the concert that the singer Taylor Swift gave in Spain.

The terrible fire that occurred in the Valencian neighbourhood of Campanar has continued to be present in the responses of young people (4.6%). This event gives way to sports news such as Real Madrid’s victory in the Champions League (3.4%) and the signing of the French player Mbappé by the merengue team (2.4%).

WORKING WITH ROBOTS: PROFESSIONS OF THE FUTURE

The study revealed that 48% of girls and 69.6% of boys would be delighted to have a robot as a co-worker. In this sense, when asked about the professions of the future, 26% did not know what to answer and the rest opted for professions such as robot carers, flying car drivers, robot tamers, virtual police officers, machine doctors, detectives to spy on robots and find out what they do, time capsule navigators or artificial human manufacturers.
