More than 400 international participants descend the waters of the Cinca in the 25th edition

The event was finally attended by 120 paddlers in the competitive modality and 300 in the popular modality.

This morning the waters of the Cinca River witnessed a new edition of the emblematic Cinca International Descent , which has reached its 25th edition. With the final participation of nearly 420 paddlers, this sporting event has once again stood out for its excellent organisation and the great atmosphere that has been experienced throughout the entire route.

The event was attended by 120 competitive paddlers and 300 popular paddlers, with a strong international component thanks to the presence of teams from France and Portugal. From early morning, the left bank of the Cinca River as it passes through Fraga was filled with activity and athletes, where volunteers, companions and spectators enjoyed a day full of fun and a good atmosphere. Although without the participation of an Argentine delegation, which was ultimately unable to attend.

At 9:30 a.m. , under a cloudy sky and a perfect temperature for the competition, the starting gun was fired for the competitive category, marking the start of an intense day. Ten minutes later, the president of the Provincial Council of Huesca , Isaac Calver, was in charge of giving the start to the popular category, accompanied by the president of the Bajo Cinca region, José Javier Ferrer, the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, the mayor of Torrente de Cinca, Rubén Morell and the deputy of the Cortes of Aragon, Antonio Romero.

CLASSIFICATIONS

With a time of 1:14:11, Nicolas Lambert and Tanguy Cattelle from Terre de Camargue (France) crossed the finish line with their K2, thus becoming the first paddlers to finish the XXV International Descent of the Cinca. In second place, and with a time of 1:19:16, was the K2 of Marcos Zamora and Pablo Climent (neutral team), closely followed by the K1 of Piere Vilella, from the French Terre de Camargue, who recorded a time of 1:22:02.

The mixed team from the Helios Club of Zaragoza, made up of paddlers Inés Roche and Francisco Roche, were the first in their category to cross the finish line. In the women’s category, the Portuguese Maria João from the Crestuma Nautical Club crossed the finish line with her K1 in a time of 1:40:03.

In addition, the team classification saw the Portuguese Club Náutico Crestuma emerge victorious, taking home a K2, followed by the Sícoris Club from Lleida and the Club deportivo Monkayak Hiberus, who received a K1 and a mini kayak respectively.

A SAFE ROUTE

This year, despite the rain that has been present intermittently throughout the day, the effectiveness of the organisation has once again been demonstrated, guaranteeing a safe and incident-free route thanks to the work of the security team and the real-time monitoring provided by the geolocation chip, which has allowed participants to be located at all times.

The awards ceremony , which took place in a festive and lively atmosphere, was attended by the president of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, José Javier Ferrer; the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún; the mayor of Torrente de Cinca, Rubén Morell; and the president of the Aragonese Canoeing Federation, José María Esteban Celorrio. During the ceremony, the “Values ​​of Cinca” award was presented to the rural agents of Seprona, in recognition of their work in preserving the natural environment of the region.

The sporting day on Saturday 24th was also intense, with the National Track Competition in Mequinenza, which welcomed promising youngsters in the prebenjamin, benjamin, alevines, infantil, paracanoe, and inclusive K2 categories, where the youngest have shown their talent and determination, predicting a promising future for canoeing.

The XXV International Cinca Descent reaffirms its position as one of the most important events on the sporting calendar, uniting competitors from all over the world in an unrivalled environment.
