125 experts have decided: the best beer in the world is from Zaragoza

Spanish cuisine is famous for its excellent wines, delicious traditional recipes and the quality of its restaurants. Now it can also boast of having the best beer in the world in Zaragoza. 

Specifically, it is the Ambar Especial beer, which a jury of 125 experts has chosen as the best beer in the world. But what makes it so special?

At the recent  World Beer Challenge , which could be defined as a world beer championship, the Aragonese beer Ambar Especial  has been the winner for 2024. The new best beer in the world has been voted for by a jury of 125 experts from 29 different countries. The drink from Zaragoza swept the International Lager category, especially because its production process includes freshly ground hops, an element that gives it more freshness.

On the other hand, they were also chosen as second finalist in the overall ranking, which included not only their special category. But the recognitions for the Ambar brewery did not end there, as they obtained 
1,391 points and 15 medals  in the competition. 

Likewise, within the competition there were mentions and praise for different versions of Ambar, as gold and silver medals were awarded to Ambar Triple 0, Ambar 1900 Unfiltered, Ambar Especial Sin Gluten, Ambar IPA, among others.

What is the World Beer Challenge

The World Beer Challenge is considered the most important beer competition on the planet. The most recognized brands from every part of the world participate, as well as the greatest experts in the beverage.

In order to choose a beer, each expert must taste its flavor, aroma, body and even consider its brewing process. In the end, positions and medals are awarded for each category. It has been this way for years, and in 2024 Ambar took all the attention.

Ambar, a brewing company born in Zaragoza

For the Aragonese, Ambar is a really popular beer brand. The company was founded in Zaragoza in 1900, but began to be organized two years earlier among a group of influential people who saw the beer industry as something profitable. In addition, the good amount of barley grown in Aragon should be used.

Ambar Especial beer is the star of the show this year, but the brand has been innovative in many beer styles. In fact, it managed to be a national pioneer with non-alcoholic beer, as well as the lemon-flavored beer or Ambar Lemon, Ambar Caesaraugusta, which is wheat-based, and the sugar cane-based beer known as Ambar Negra.
