Zaragoza will once again experience its best days of the year from October 5 to 13. With more than 500 events scheduled, which even extend to the day before, the Fiestas del Pilar will fill, as every year, the streets of the Aragonese capital with life, music and tradition, but above all with thousands of people who will not want to miss a single detail of everything that happens during that week.

We are just one month away from the official kick-off of this great event that will take place on October 5th with the opening speech of the Fiestas del Pilar that will be given by Naiara and Juanjo Bona. The contestants of
Operación Triunfo achieved this privilege not only by winning the last edition of the television contest as Naiara did, but by representing Aragon and extolling its values in a prime-time program.

It will be at 9:00 p.m. when the triumphants will climb onto the balcony of Zaragoza City Hall. Below them, a packed Plaza del Pilar will await their words, the already well-known “S’ha feito de nuey” and “Canto a la libertad”, as well as the rocket and fireworks.

However, the festive atmosphere will have already begun hours before. And, in addition to Juanjo and Naiara, Saturday 5th October will have other great protagonists. On the one hand, the Comparsa de Gigantes, Cabezudos y Caballitos de Zaragoza will take on a special role in this year’s parade, which will also be entitled “A Giant’s Festival”. The aim is not only to celebrate the 25 years since the creation of the Giants, but also the declaration of the Comparsa as an Intangible Cultural Asset of Interest.

Some of the most representative comparsas from Aragon, Spain and even from around the world will take part in this parade. They will come from Huesca, Teruel, Barcelona, Solsona, Estella-Lizarra, Vitoria, Alcalá de Henares, Tafalla, Bilbao, Tudela, Dax (France), León (Nicaragua) and Ath (Belgium). In addition, for the first time, Zaragoza and its neighbourhoods will also be represented. The route will start at 7:00 p.m. on the Paseo María Agustín and will continue along Puerta Del Carmen, Avenida Cesar Augusto, Coso and Alfonso I to the Plaza del Pilar.

THE PEÑAS CELEBRATE THEIR TRADITIONAL PREACHING

On the other hand, and as usual, the peñas will be the other main protagonists of Saturday. From 4:00 p.m., Interpeñas will gather to give their particular opening speech an hour later in the Plaza España. From there they will begin their parade through the Coso and Don Jaime towards the Plaza del Pilar.

For its part, Unión Peñista will do the same from Plaza Santa Engracia. They will gather at 5:30 p.m. and will proceed to read their proclamation at 6:30 p.m. Once the speech is over, they will go down Paseo Independencia, Coso and Don Jaime to meet up with the thousands of Zaragozans who will be waiting at the doors of Zaragoza City Hall.
