The Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza) continues to be the major operations centre in southern Europe for many companies in the sector. The German company Dachser, specialising in logistics and freight transport, is building a second state-of-the-art logistics centre on this public platform of the Government of Aragon, a project that will be operational in 2026.
Following an investment of 14 million euros, this new facility will strengthen the company’s operational capacity, consolidating Zaragoza as a strategic hub for logistics in the Iberian Peninsula and Europe. In addition, with the expansion, Dachser hopes to double its workforce in the city in the coming years, which currently stands at 80 employees.
For the regional minister for Development, Housing, Mobility and Logistics, Octavio López, this new Dachser logistics centre confirms “the growing interest that Plaza and Aragón as a whole are generating for international companies, which means that we are doing things well in terms of logistics, that we are consolidating ourselves and that we have great opportunities to continue growing and continue attracting investments that generate wealth, development and employment”.
The new centre, located in Plaza, responds to the high volume of business that the company manages both nationally and in Europe. “This new centre will allow us to manage more shipments and optimise our operations, with more storage capacity, more docks for heavy trucks and an infrastructure designed for future growth,” says
Moisés Beltrán, General Manager of Dachser in Aragón, La Rioja and Navarra.
The project will be developed on a 74,788 m² plot of land where Dachser already has a 8,450 m² logistics platform . The new construction will have a constructed area of 12,045 m², including warehouse and offices, which will allow it to more than double its workforce and operational capacity in Spain and Europe, leaving room for future growth of more than 11,700 m2. The works, which began this summer, are expected to be completed in August 2025; while the start of operations is scheduled for January 2026.
The second logistics centre will have a total of 100 loading bays for different types of trucks, 92 parking spaces for swap bodies, 12 waiting spaces for heavy goods vehicles and 86 spaces for passenger vehicles. Dachser will also incorporate solar panels and aerothermal systems for the supply of hot water.
An automatic order sorter will also be installed for greater efficiency in distribution, with the aim of improving the centre’s productivity. The new facility, designed in terms of efficient architecture, will also have low-consumption LED lighting. This will therefore include the most advanced technologies and important sustainability measures.
ZARAGOZA, A STRATEGIC POINT FOR INTERNATIONAL TRADE
This new logistics centre will be essential to improve the coordination of imports to the Iberian Peninsula and exports to the rest of Europe. From Zaragoza, Dachser manages direct routes to France, Germany and Italy, with additional connections to the Nordic countries via Germany.
The facility currently has the capacity to handle more than 200,000 tons of goods and more than 800,000 shipments per year, with plans to increase its capacity by 50% over the next three years. Thanks to the company’s commitment to PLAZA, the city of Zaragoza is further strengthened as a strategic point for international trade, contributing, in turn, to the economic growth of Aragon.
