The ski season in Aragon will begin this Friday, December 13, with the opening of the Aramón group’s resorts. Cerler and Formigal will start the season this Friday and Panticosa and Valdelinares will join the following day, Saturday 14.
The latest snowfall, with up to 80 centimetres of accumulated snow, together with the snow produced thanks to the latest investments by the Government of Aragon , make it possible for the stations to be ready for their opening. The start date is similar to that of the last campaign, when it started on the weekend of 16 December.
As for the stations, Cerler, in the Benasque valley, will offer all its services from the start. Both accesses will be available, both Cerler 1,500 and Ampriu.
In the Tena Valley, Formigal begins the season with the opening this Friday, while on Saturday it will be the turn to complete the offer in all its valleys. Visitors will be able to enjoy not only the quality of the slopes, but also a wide range of catering services and complementary activities that make the Tena Valley a reference destination.
On the other hand, in the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre, the Valdelinares station will open its doors on Saturday 14th while the neighbouring Javalambre station, the teams continue working intensively to be able to inaugurate the season as soon as conditions allow.
Furthermore, with the opening of the resorts, the Aramón Group is boosting the dynamism of the valleys and strengthening the rate of reservations for the Christmas campaign, which is expected to have good snow conditions thanks to the drop in temperatures.
A UNIQUE INVESTMENT
This 2024 has seen the largest investment in snow production in the history of Aragon with a project in which more than 20 million have been invested and which will be undertaken in several phases. In the first phase, the resorts have focused on optimising and improving the existing snow network. 609 snow makers have been installed, of which 230 are optimised and 379 are new. This increases the number of installed snow makers to 1,680, i.e. a growth of 28%. All this translates into a total of 78.5 kilometres of snow covered area with state-of-the-art systems.
Since last April, progress has also been made in the conditioning of the electrical installations and water storage, in addition to the projects and studies necessary to carry out the next phases of this great snowmaking project.
This plan will be carried out by shortening execution times, thanks to the aid from the Pyrenees Plan and the Teruel Investment Funds (FITE), launched by the Government of Aragon, where the objective is to achieve an increase of 65% of the kilometers covered in snow on the current surface and increase the water reservoir capacity by 96%.
