The Aragonese president, Jorge Azcón , has come out this Thursday to deny the possible arrival of the automobile company Leapmotor to the Stellantis plant in Figueruelas, advanced by Tribuna de la Automoción. From an “ extremely cautious ” position, Azcón has opened the door to investment from the Asian giant, with whose embassy Aragón is concerned to maintain “ close relations ” due to its “ strong economic role ”. “It is evident that today we have conditions of talent, competitiveness, governability , agreement between unions and employers and administrative procedures so that there are many companies that focus here”, he stressed in statements from Huesca.
The head of the Executive has shown himself willing to see these investments, as happened throughout 2024 with the aforementioned balance of more than 40,000 million euros, come to fruition. “Aragon is a land of opportunities and we are open to the generation of wealth. Let’s see if we are capable, with this and many others,” he continued.
Regarding last year, and although the outlook is positive at the start of 2025, Azcón has pointed out that the investment figures “may take decades” to be repeated. According to Tribuna de la Automoción, the Chinese multinational is “seriously” analysing the viability and profitability of settling in the Zaragoza plant to manufacture its B10 electric SUV model , which could be launched on the market in the third quarter of this year. This specialist newspaper points to the deployment of the CATL gigafactory as a “decisive” factor, as it would allow production costs to be reduced.
Stellantis has controlled 51% of Leapmotor since October 2023, when it formalized a capital injection of around 1.5 billion euros to pocket another 20%. The joint venture was intended to boost sales outside the Asian market from the second half of 2024.
AZCÓN URGES TO COMPLETE THE ALMUDÉVAR RESERVOIR
On the other hand, Azcón has referred in the city of Huesca to the situation of the Almudévar reservoir , already finished but whose filling is still pending until the Central Government gives the green light. The president has urged Moncloa to start it up after a paralysis that he describes as “ incomprehensible ”. His statements have come before the III Economic Congress of Alto Aragón , where the president of CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, has also participated.
“ Huesca is in a good moment, the data confirms it,” he commented. The snowfall on the Aramón ski slopes, the boost to the Amazon Web Services data centres and agriculture have been other areas mentioned by the head of the Executive.
