The prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicates that the polar mass will enter
Galicia and the Cantabrian provinces in the early hours of this Friday, moving eastwards and reaching the Balearic Islands on Saturday. This will mean that winter will become more severe this Friday in large areas of the northern half of the peninsula due to the arrival of a mass of polar air, which will favour a process of storm cyclogenesis, with which there will be snowfall in 15 provinces.

This Friday, widespread rainfall is expected with a front sweeping across the territory from northwest to southeast and its post-frontal discharge in the far north. Rain will be less likely on the southeast coasts and in the Balearic Islands.

Meteorology has issued a yellow warning (risk) for snowfall in 15 provinces this Friday. The heaviest snowfall is expected in Burgos, La Rioja and Soria (Iberian System); Barcelona (pre-Pyrenees); Girona and Huesca (Pyrenees), and Lleida (Pyrenees and Aran Valley), where at least 15 centimetres of snow could accumulate on the ground.

In addition, there are yellow warnings for snowfalls of at least 10 centimetres in thickness in Burgos, León and Palencia (Cantabrian Mountains), and for less intense white precipitation in Asturias (Cantabrian Mountains and Picos de Europa), Cantabria (Liébana, centre and Villaverde Valley), Guadalajara and Madrid (mountains), Navarra (Pyrenees), Segovia (Central System) and Soria (plateau and Central System).

SNOW LEVEL

The snow level will be between 900 and 1,200 metres and will fluctuate to below 700 metres in the far north, while remaining between 1,200 and 1,500 metres in the southern half of the peninsula.

Aemet predicts snowfall in the mountains of the northern half of the peninsula, with significant accumulations in the northern third, and not ruling out snowfall in lower areas of the Northern Plateau and mountainous areas of the southeast.

For its part, the Canary Islands will have partly cloudy skies and the probability of some afternoon showers on the islands with higher elevations.

Daytime temperatures will drop across the board, notably in inland areas of the peninsula, with slight increases in the Alboran area and the extreme southeast of the peninsula.

It will be colder in Logroño (6 degrees at most), Soria (7) and Huesca, Oviedo, Pamplona, Segovia and Vitoria (8), and warmer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (22), and Malaga (20). Finally, this Friday there will be strong winds in coastal areas, from the north and east in the Cantabrian Sea, and from the east turning to the west in the Alboran and the Strait.
