The Aragonese president, Jorge Azcón, receives this Monday afternoon at the Aljafería Palace a representation of deputies of the European Parliament. Among them, Borja Jiménez Larraz (PP) from Zaragoza and Rosa Serrano ( PSOE ) from Huesca . On the table is the promotion of the connections of Aragon with the rest of the continent, and more specifically what is related to the reopening of the international line of Canfranc through the Somport tunnel, after the latest advances by Adif and the Ministry of Transport, in addition to the period of public surveys in New Aquitaine, and the Central Crossing of the Pyrenees.
Speaking to the media, Azcón reiterated that these projects are “an absolute priority” for the Government of Aragon and he conveyed this last November to the European head of Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas . The president highlighted the work of the Community in collaboration with both France and the portfolio headed by Óscar Puente.
The visit of the European delegation to the region will allow them to learn about the “problems and aspirations” of the territory in terms of infrastructure. “The Government of Aragon is absolutely aligned and we have well-founded hopes that, not only will we be able to see the reopening of Canfranc in a few years, but that the Central Pyrenees Crossing, a demand forgotten by the last governments, will be put back on the table. The connections between Spain and France, not only through the railway, have a wide margin for improvement,” the president stressed.
On Tuesday, MEPs are scheduled to visit Zaragoza Airport and the facilities of the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza) . On Wednesday, they will do the same with the international station of Canfranc and the ski slopes of
Astún, and the route will close on Thursday at Mobility City.
