Zaragoza airport could expand its international passenger routes in the coming months. According to the Director General of Tourism in the Government of Aragon, Jorge Moncada, in an interview given to this newspaper in recent days, negotiations are underway with several airlines to increase the arrival of foreign tourists to the city by air.
“We are immersed in a negotiation cluster and I believe that it will be possible,” Moncada told Aragón Digital when asked about the situation in the near future with the air routes of the Aragonese capital, which are
not going through their best moment after the reduction of flights announced by Ryanair due to AENA taxes. However, the Director General of Tourism was cautious and brief, without going into great detail, as this is not his direct competence. “I would like Transport to be the one to give an account of these guidelines and these negotiations. But it is common sense, we want to expand,” specified the Aragonese politician who affirmed that conversations are being held to see “what can be done to improve.”
“We are a bit weak in terms of passengers and we want Zaragoza to be the nerve centre of the Ebro valley ,” added Moncada, who attributed the drop in passengers at Zaragoza airport to the great connectivity offered by the AVE. At the same time, he stressed that the most important thing is that the companies that are already there do not leave. “Oviedo, Valladolid, Santander or Vigo are losing many passengers. If they have called us and we have spoken to them, it is because they might be interested in staying here…”, he concluded.
