The Formigal resort is celebrating its 60th anniversary as a benchmark for skiing and tourism in Spain. Since its opening in 1964, it has evolved to become one of the most important destinations for snow lovers. To commemorate these six decades of history, the Aramón Group has organized a series of exhibitions, talks, and events that review its history and impact on the sector.

The resort’s first ski lift, called “Tres Hombres,” marked the beginning of a transformation that, six decades later , has made Formigal one of Europe’s most prominent ski areas . Its commitment to innovation , varied leisure offerings, and its commitment to sustainability have been key to its growth, consolidating it as a must-visit destination during the winter season.

AN EXHIBITION AND A RADIO PROGRAM FROM THE STATION

The celebration of Formigal ‘s 60th anniversary will feature a special exhibition that is now available at Ibercaja’s Xplora space in Zaragoza, until April 11. In this exhibition, visitors can take a visual tour of the evolution of the resort over these six decades, through images, historical documents and explanatory texts that reflect the most relevant milestones in its history.

Within the framework of this exhibition, a talk will be held in the same space on March 31st at 12:00 noon, which will address the evolution of the history of the resort over these sixty years and the most important aspects of the development of Formigal , its key role in the evolution of snow tourism in Spain, and its contribution as an economic driver in the territory in which it operates.

Also, as part of the celebrations, Cadena SER will record a special program at the station on March 28th that will take listeners through the history of Formigal. This program will feature key figures who have played a part in and witnessed the station’s evolution.

60 YEARS OF INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP IN SPANISH SKIING

Over the years, the resort has experienced key milestones in its growth. In the 1970s, the addition of chairlifts allowed for the expansion of the resort and improved the skier experience. Furthermore, in the 1980s, Formigal was a pioneer in snow production in the Aragonese Pyrenees . In 2002, with the creation of the Aramón Group, and in 2010, with the merger with Panticosa , the resort became the largest ski area in Spain, offering skiers more than 180 kilometers  of slopes.

In addition to its infrastructure growth, Formigal-Panticosa has diversified its offering with unique experiences such as Nieve Aventura, Tobogganing, Noches en la Glera and Las Mugas. In the après-ski sector, the creation of Marchica Experience in 2023 has represented a leap forward in the leisure offering, with Marchica as its flagship and ten distinct settings such as M The Club, M Big Room, Remáscaro, Cabaña 1.900 and several emblematic terraces.

Over the past six decades, Formigal-Panticosa has grown and evolved, always committed to modernization and excellence. With this celebration, Aramón Formigal not only pays tribute to its history but also reaffirms its commitment to the future of skiing and mountain tourism, offering skiers a unique and unparalleled experience in the heart of the Pyrenees.
