The Italian company BelEnergia , specialized in renewable energy and the circular economy, is advancing its expansion in Spain with the launch of two biomethane plants in Aragon, located in La Almunia de Doña Godina (Valdejalón) and San Esteban de Litera (La Litera). These projects, which will have an investment of more than 60 million euros, have already been declared of regional interest.
BelEnergia has become an international leader thanks to its state-of-the-art sealed plants, which guarantee minimal environmental impact and maximum efficiency in biomethane production. Two of its most notable success stories are the CTIP Blue plant in Italy and Sologne Biogaz in France.
CTIP Blue is capable of processing 180,000 tons of waste annually and generating up to 110 gigawatt hours of biomethane, a volume sufficient to supply thousands of homes and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Sologne Biogaz, for its part, has proven to be a model of environmental integration and social acceptance, validated by the local community thanks to its odor-free operation.
Its innovative design incorporates advanced sanitation systems, allowing for the safe treatment of all types of waste; hermetically sealed containers that eliminate gas emissions; air filters with advanced technology capable of neutralizing odors and minimizing environmental impact ; and capturing and recovering more than 99% of the gases generated, transforming them into biomethane and reusable CO2. It also allows for the production of organic amendments and natural fertilizers.
BET IN ARAGON
As part of its expansion plan in Spain, BelEnergia has chosen Aragon as a strategic location for the development of its renewable energy model. The future plants in La Almunia de Doña Godina and San Esteban de Litera will not only generate employment and wealth in the region, but will also strengthen Aragon’s role as a benchmark in sustainability and energy innovation.
The company is already anticipating future regulations in Spain by applying the most stringent environmental standards in Europe. In countries like France, Italy, and Germany, regulations already impose strict limits on odor emissions and environmental impact, while Spain is still in the regulatory development phase in this area.
The company is ahead of this trend by implementing regulations such as UNE-EN 13725, which regulates air quality and odor concentrations using dynamic olfactometry.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Founded in 2011, it is currently one of Europe’s leading players in renewable energy. With a turnover of €102 million in 2023 and 200 employees, the group operates 13 plants in operation, two under construction, and five in the launch phase in France, Italy, and Spain.
Its advanced technology allows for the recovery of almost 100% of the treated organic matter, ensuring zero harmful emissions and zero wasted waste. The company is currently expanding its biomethane production to reach 18,581 Sm3/h in the coming years.
