Aragon is a land with much to offer. Its people, its cuisine, and its landscapes, ranging from the snowy Pyrenees to the Monegros Desert , make everyone who visits want to return. So much so that even those across the pond recommend visiting us.

And one of the most important newspapers in the United States, the New York Times, has chosen Canfranc as one of the “52 Places to Go in 2025.” Among all the destinations such as the Galapagos Islands or Greenland, only two Spanish destinations stand out: Canfranc (Huesca) at number 24 and Montserrat (Barcelona) at number 42.

The journalist who wrote the article, Michael Harmon, specifically emphasized that Canfranc, “hidden in the Pyrenees,” remains a “well-kept secret” located right on the border between the two most visited countries in the world. He also describes the Huesca town as an ideal destination for active tourism, highlighting that in its surroundings, “you can ski, go mountain biking, hike along glacial lakes, and even follow the lesser-known Aragonese route of the Camino de Santiago.”

A HISTORIC STATION CONVERTED INTO A LUXURY HOTEL

But what truly impressed the American journalist was the imposing Canfranc International Station, which, after remaining “eerily dormant for 50 years,” has been reborn as a “magnificently restored” five-star hotel. Harmon says that entering this hotel is like visiting “a Wes Anderson creation brought to life.” He particularly highlights how the former ticket hall, “similar to a cathedral,” now functions as the hotel lobby, and underlines the originality of the Michelin-starred restaurant, located in an old train carriage.

The train returns to Canfranc in 2025

Another new development reported by The New York Times is that this year it will once again be possible to travel by train to Canfranc, thanks to the reopening of the historic Zaragoza -Canfranc railway line. The article describes this route as particularly attractive, highlighting its “zigzag” final section, which “skims cliffs and passes through 19 tunnels as it ascends toward the mountains.”

This appearance of Canfranc in the New York Times is further proof that Aragon has unique places capable of capturing the attention of the entire world. Now it’s time to continue working so that more and more people, even from abroad, discover everything this land has to offer.
