This April, Renfe is launching a new direct high-speed service that will connect Seville with Zaragoza without the need to transfer in Madrid. This AVE, which the company calls “through,” will connect Andalusia, Aragon, and Catalonia in a single journey, improving comfort for passengers while optimizing travel times.
The new feature is the integration of two existing routes : the AVE (High Speed Train) that covers the route between Seville and Madrid, and the one that connects the capital with Zaragoza and Barcelona. Thanks to this connection, travelers will no longer have to get off at Madrid’s Atocha station to change trains, something that was previously mandatory when connecting these destinations by rail.
The new service responds to Renfe’s strategy of strengthening interregional connections without requiring a stopover in Madrid. This facilitates travel between the south and northeast of the Iberian Peninsula by connecting cities such as Córdoba, Zaragoza, and Barcelona with a more direct, efficient service tailored to current user needs.
SCHEDULES OF THE NEW AVE ZARAGOZA-SEVILLE
Starting April 23, the new AVE will depart daily from Seville Santa Justa at 6:00 a.m. and from Córdoba at 6:45 a.m. From there, it will continue its journey with stops in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, and Madrid, before reaching Zaragoza at 10:47 a.m. It will then continue to Barcelona, arriving at 12:41 p.m., and concluding its journey in Figueres at 1:44 p.m.
In the opposite direction, the train will depart from Figueres and arrive in Zaragoza at 6:25 p.m., after departing Barcelona-Sants at 4:58 p.m. From Delicias, it will continue south with stops in Madrid, Ciudad Real, Puertollano, and Córdoba, arriving at 9:55 p.m. The journey will conclude in Seville, Santa Justa, at 10:49 p.m. This service will run every day of the week, except Saturdays.
With this new non-transferable service, Renfe strengthens its daily high-speed service between Seville and Zaragoza, which already has ten direct trains per day, five in each direction. This schedule also includes connecting routes with integrated tickets, available for travelers who choose different schedules or combined routes.
NEW CONNECTION BETWEEN ANDALUSIA, ARAGON AND CATALONIA
The launch of this AVE through line allows for direct and seamless connections between three of the country’s main autonomous communities. With stops in intermediate cities such as Córdoba, Lérida, Tarragona, and Girona, the service facilitates inter-regional mobility and contributes to better structuring the region through high-speed rail transport.
One of the most appreciated aspects by passengers will be the elimination of the transfer in Madrid, a process that until now required getting off the train and changing platforms at Atocha station. This improvement not only reduces travel times but also simplifies the journey for people with reduced mobility, families, or travelers with luggage.
Tickets for this new service are now available through all of Renfe’s usual sales channels: the official website, mobile apps, station ticket offices, and the helpline at 912 320 320. The company recommends planning your trip in advance, especially during long weekends and holiday periods, when higher demand is expected.
