The Panticosa mountain slide is taking steps forward and has already been awarded the contract. In recent days, the Huesca-based company Viacron was awarded the project for the same price as the tender. The project seeks to complement and boost tourism in the area through deseasonalization, which will cost approximately €6.7 million plus VAT (approximately €7.7 million). Construction will take just over a year; however, it will be suspended during the winter season to avoid disrupting the ski season.
The Government of Aragon and the Panticosa City Council are promoting this strategic project, which will run along the town’s own slopes. As part of the Pyrenees Plan, the regional government is supporting this infrastructure to strengthen the economies of the four Pyrenean regions: Jacetania, Alto Gállego, Sobrarbe, and Ribagorza. Of the total budget, 500,000 euros will be provided by the City Council.
The total amount includes the construction of this tourist attraction, as well as the necessary auxiliary elements, civil works, the design, and construction management. Additional supplies include heating along the line, lighting along the route, and lighting a track to enhance safety.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
This is a monorail slide that will run from the Formigal-Panticosa ski resort to the ski resort’s parking lot, almost three kilometers long. It will reach speeds of nearly 40 kilometers per hour and accumulate up to 700 meters of vertical drop. It will operate by gravity, just like a conventional roller coaster, with the difference that it will be located in a natural setting for all audiences and compatible with other alpine activities.
Thus, the vehicles will be propelled solely by gravity, without leaving the rail, and will have space for one adult and one child up to eight years old, with separate seat belts and rubber shock absorbers in the front and rear to absorb some of the energy upon impact. An average influx of 5,000 people per month is estimated , with the highest influx in July and August. Therefore, it will operate as a substitute for the ski season.
