These are the eight places (and times) where you can see the works of Zaragoza Luce for free

From February 21 to 23, eight lighting installations will be installed at eight points in Zaragoza

Cristina Morte Landa Saturday, January 25, 2025 / 10:00

Zaragoza Luce will turn the Aragonese capital into a large open-air museum from 21 to 23 February. Eight light installations never before seen in Spain will take over as many spaces in the city, making it one of those world capitals that host a festival of light. National and international artists will display their creations in a new cultural event that aims to highlight the city’s heritage while avant-garde art dialogues with it. Together, these eight creations will create the Ruta de la Luz, perfect for discovering the city in a different way.

In addition, there will be QR codes that will lead to audio guides explaining the work and the different artists and their creative processes.

THESE ARE THE PLACES OF ZARAGOZA LUCE 2025

1. ROMAN THEATRE

The work of Arola, one of the most prominent artists in the field of light, responds to his eternal search for beauty, inspired by ancestral cultures, digital codes and chance.

With “Fiat Lux” he invites us to enter a parallel universe where light and space become a sensorial language with a piece ad hoc to the space and dimensions of the Roman Theatre, a format that has never been seen in any other city. Through lasers, smoke and a series of interactive elements, it envelops the spectator in a volumetric and changing space, which seems to emerge from nowhere, mutate, disappear and constantly reconfigure itself.

2. FACADE OF THE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTS

The façade of the College of Architects of Aragon (Pza. de Ariño) will be the canvas where contemporary art and architectural tradition will be fused with the work “Pii, architectural expansion”. It is an electronic sculpture that generates a luminous body that expands beyond its own physical limit . With the use of infrared sensors, light matrices and mirrors, the work creates an environment in which the spectator is an active part of the artistic process, allowing the installation to respond to the public’s behaviour.

3 SAN FELIPE SQUARE

In Plaza San Felipe there will be “El núcleo”, a light sculpture that uses light as a universal language in a structure of visual impact.

The sculpture’s cubic structure becomes a three-dimensional canvas where the light projected from within generates a visual landscape . Each variation in the intensity, color and rhythm of the light transforms the work, creating patterns and textures that unfold over the surfaces of the sculpture. The piece uses state-of-the-art LED lighting technology, opening up new frontiers in the visual arts.

4. JUSTICE SQUARE

“Paths of Light at Dawn”, on the façade of the Church of Santa Isabel, through geometric projections, will establish a deep dialogue with the façade of the church, respecting its original design while transforming its perception. His work adapts in an unrepeatable way to the building and its particularities, which makes his intervention a work that will never happen again in the same way anywhere else in the world.

5. SOURCE OF HISPANICITY

The “Solardust” intervention will transform the Fuente de la Hispanidad, located in the Plaza del Pilar, into a celestial kingdom where bright stars float suspended in a three-dimensional structure evoking an ethereal cloud. A multitude of solar particles are reminiscent of digital fireflies in this work that combines light and sound in an immersive and sensorial show that invites contemplation.

Inspired by the beauty of stars and cosmic dust particles, ‘Solardust’ uses bright lights that seem to emerge from nowhere to a sonic rhythm, creating a perfect interplay between light and music.

6. PILLAR SQUARE

The work that will arrive at the Plaza del Pilar will be a lighting installation that fuses light, geometry and movement to generate a unique experience. This work arrives in Zaragoza with its characteristic use of hundreds of tubes that simulate bamboo and programmed LEDs, creating a work that transforms according to the viewer’s perspective.

The installation evokes the image of a bonfire , with the illuminated tubes simulating the movement of the flames. As the viewer approaches, the work reveals its true nature: a hypnotic dance of lights that move along the bamboo poles, creating luminous and fluid patterns that seem to dematerialize in the air.

7. SEO SQUARE FOUNTAIN

“Artificial Humans” will be exhibited for the first time in our country. It presents life-size human figures, illuminated and arranged both inside and outside the fountain in the Plaza de la Seo. The figures, illuminated in a dramatic way, seem to take on a life of their own thanks to the play of light, creating the sensation of artificial human beings.

The installation seeks to invite reflection on how new forms of digital consumption modify our perception of human nature. The figures, which appear to be suspended in space, are interspersed in the fountain, symbolising a cross between the natural and the constructed. Water, an element associated with life and purity, becomes the frame for these artificial figures, creating an atmosphere in which the distinction between the biological and the technological becomes blurred.

8. STONE BRIDGE

The “Colosses” intervention on the Stone Bridge will feature two enormous luminous figures, representing giant men interacting with the bridge, creating a powerful visual metaphor about human fragility in the face of the forces of nature. The work will be strategically placed in the vicinity of the Stone Bridge, a place that symbolizes the connection between different worlds and realities. The giants seem to hold up the pillars of the bridge, as if fighting against the rising waters that threaten to destroy it.
