The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is activating the sale of state-owned train and bus passes this Thursday with up to 100% discounts, thanks to the fact that the Government has once again authorized discounts on multi-trip passes and tickets with the same conditions.

Renfe is thus making free CercaníasRodalies, conventional Media Distancia and Avant passes available to users with discounts of up to 50%. The sale of free tickets for state bus lines is also being reactivated.

Free services will remain in effect until June 30, 2025, with the exception of Cantabria and Asturias, where commuter and narrow gauge services will be 100% subsidized all year round, as set out in the agreements signed in 2023.

The high-performance services between Murcia and Alicante, and the Avant services between Ourense and A Coruña will continue to be free until 30 June 2025. This also applies to point-to-point services between Madrid and Salamanca. To use these services, a Media Distancia pass must be purchased.

The free four-monthly bus and train passes issued up to January 22 will remain in effect and can be purchased again tomorrow. In the case of passes issued from Thursday onwards, users must pay the corresponding deposit and make at least 12 trips by April 30 to meet the conditions for re-purchase.

For the months of May and June, users will have to request the free two-month subscription, the conditions for purchase and use of which will be published shortly.

Avant services, meanwhile, will continue to be discounted by 50% until December 2025.

As of January 22, Renfe has issued more than 1.36 million free passes, more than one million for Cercanías and more than 353,400 for medium-distance trains. In turn, 31,860 Avant passes with discounts were sold.

The approval of the Royal Decree-Law also restores aid to autonomous communities and municipalities to reduce the price of public transport passes and multi-trip tickets for urban and metropolitan collective transport by at least 50% during the first half of 2025. Likewise, public bicycle rental systems resume the 50% discount on passes for the entire year.

Finally, public land transport in the Balearic and Canary Islands will be free all year round and the Ministry will fully finance the discounts.
