Dorna and the DGA will meet “shortly” to negotiate the continuity of MotoGP at Motorland

The meeting will be in Zaragoza but there is still no date

The president of Motorland Aragón and also the Minister of Tourism in the Government of Aragon, Manuel Blasco, has announced this Monday after the formalization of a new Advisory Board for the circuit that
he will meet “shortly” with the CEO of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, to negotiate the continuation of the Aragon GP in Alcañiz beyond 2026, the date on which the current contract expires. “The relationship has always been very fluid. As soon as I return to Spain we will meet,” Blasco stressed.

Of course, there is no guarantee that it will come to fruition. Especially after Ezpeleta’s announcement a few days ago in which he said that, from 2027, the five world championships to be held in the Iberian Peninsula will have to be reduced to “two or three” to make room for new international markets. A decision also facilitated by the change in ownership of the championship, now under the tutelage of Liberty Media (which also manages F-1).

Montmeló (Catalonia) is already guaranteed continuity in the MotoGP world championship until 2031. The other four peninsular circuits currently included (Jerez, Cheste (Valencia), Portimao (Portugal) and Aragon) will have to share the cake.

BLASCO CALLS FOR CALM

Blasco has admitted that the extension of the Grand Prix in Catalonia and the intention to reduce the number of races in the Iberian Peninsula causes him some concern, but at the same time he has called for calm. “It was very difficult to maintain 5 Grand Prix forever. Very complicated. New countries are knocking on the door, but we are also insisting that we want to continue ,” he said.

The councillor at the DGA has also assured that it is not a question of putting in “12 or 13 million euros” but rather of seeing now what the intentions of the new owners are. “We have guaranteed the Grand Prix until 2026 and we want to start negotiations to continue. We are interested but we do not know them and we want to see if we can fulfil them . Most of the constructors are Asian and are interested in entering,” added Blasco from Alcañiz.

This Monday, the Board of Directors held a meeting in which the payment of the MotoGP World Championship fee to Dorna was approved, the responsibility of which falls on the Government of Aragon. The Aragon GP will be held from June 6 to 8 this year 2025.
