Elon Musk versus Amancio Ortega. Who will be able to win? The founder of Tesla and owner of X, among other things, and the richest man in Spain and also a founding partner of Inditex, have opened a business dispute over a plot of land measuring approximately 1.5 million square meters located in the Valencian town of Cheste.
The interest is none other than to expand their respective commercial operations in Europe from a position that, from a business perspective, is very lucrative. The land in question is strategically located in the La Ceja-Cañada Arena industrial estate . Its proximity to the A-3 motorway, the Mediterranean corridor, and Valencia Airport positions it as a first-rate logistics hub, just half an hour from the port of Valencia, the busiest in the Mediterranean for container traffic. In this case, it is also about three hours from Zaragoza and an hour and a half from Teruel.
THE INTENTIONS OF ELON MUSK AND AMANCIO ORTEGA
Tycoon Musk and his company Tesla, which has been the center of attention in recent weeks due to President Trump’s public support following its stock market crash, are reportedly considering establishing a gigafactory on the shores of the Mediterranean . This project could represent an investment of nearly €5 billion and the creation of more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. The plant would have an estimated annual battery capacity of 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) and could produce 50,000 vehicles per year.
For his part, Amancio Ortega plans to build two logistics centers in the Valencian Community , one for his Bershka brand and the other for Tempe, his footwear division. Although these projects do not involve production activities, their implementation would strengthen the company’s distribution network in Europe.
Ultimately, Tesla’s potential arrival in Valencia could significantly boost the electric automotive sector in Spain, complementing initiatives such as Volkswagen’s gigafactory in Sagunto and Stellantis’s in Figueruelas. Meanwhile, Inditex’s expansion would consolidate the region as a leading logistics hub on the continent.
