Geoalcali has reached an agreement with Acciona Construction SA for the construction of the civil works of the Mina Muga project , about 50 kilometers from Pamplona, within the municipalities of Undués de Lerda (Aragón) and Sangüesa (Navarra).
The company has worked on incorporating the real costs of the project due to the impact of global inflation on the price of raw materials and the corresponding budget updates of various kinds.
In November 2023, the company updated its feasibility study integrating these market impacts into the project. In this sense, the figure of 56.9 million euros in the Acciona contract in reference to the Muga civil works is in line with the company’s viability analysis.
The aforementioned contract with Acciona includes the commission to carry out the work of the ponds , temporary storage, the works corresponding to the access road to the plant, the urbanization of the plant, interior roads, water, gas and electrical distribution rings and buildings auxiliaries.
This important milestone in the development of the project culminates after an exhaustive cost analysis process . Ignacio Salazar , CEO of Highfield Resources-Geoalcali , stated that “we are delighted to close this agreement with Acciona, an important progress for the construction of Muga. This milestone represents a reactivation for the territories of Navarra and Aragon that surround the mine, localities “who have been suffering the effects of depopulation and who will benefit from the hundreds of jobs that the project will generate.”
The civil works are one of the three major construction projects planned by Geoalcali. Another of the planned works is the process plant that includes the construction of the warehouse, flotation plant, crystallization, drying, as well as truck loading, among others. The company already announced in March of this year, the awarding of the ramp work.
The design and engineering has been developed by the IDOM company , which will also provide technical support and supervision during the execution of the work.
During the construction of Mina Muga, it is estimated that 1,000 jobs will be created . The works are scheduled for summer 2024.
