The Galacho de Juslibol starts its autumn educational activities programme this Sunday, 1st September . Until 30th November, the Zaragoza City Council, through the Office of Environment, Climate Action and Public Health, has scheduled activities in this natural space aimed at both the general public and organised groups. There will be guided walks, workshops and training activities, which are complemented by the El Carrizal train service to access this important natural space in the city.

All these activities start at the Visitor Centre, an exhibition space run by environmental education professionals with explanatory panels and a dynamic model to learn about some of the natural and cultural values of the Galacho and its surroundings before entering it.

GUIDED TOURS, THE MOST DEMANDED

One of the most popular options for citizens is guided walks. This autumn, one-hour tours have been scheduled on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at different times to discover the groves, steppes and lagoons that make up the protected area.

There will also be special visits to the wetland and the Soto Partinchas, one of the areas of greatest natural value and with restricted access due to its fragility. These visits are a unique opportunity to get to know it and will only take place on October 20 and November 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Visits require prior registration, as do the workshops offered by the Galacho. These are proposals for all audiences in which you can discover the forest, learn how to build nest boxes and bird feeders, recognize footprints or make soap with used oil. They take place on Sundays at 12 noon. To participate in the activities, you must register by email at cvgalacho@zaragoza.es or by phone at 650 576 526.

The Galacho de Juslibol also offers guided tours and specific workshops for organized groups, adapting the tours to the needs of the group.

On September 29th, there will also be a very special day: Juslibol Galacho Day, known as “the Galacho festival”. It is an open day with games for the little ones, special guided tours and information tables. There will be an exhibition of mammal tracks and footprints, a display of fish, mollusks, amphibians and reptiles, a reading space and a bird ringing point and all the activities that take place on that day are free.

THE CARRIZAL TRAIN

With the start of the activities, the Ministry of the Environment has also launched the El Carrizal train; an original and fun way of getting to the Galacho for people with reduced mobility or who do not want to do it on foot or by bicycle. The train departs from María Zambrano street, in Actur (Zaragoza).

The Galacho is a protected natural area that cannot be reached by private motor vehicle. At the exit of the Juslibol neighbourhood there is a barrier to prevent access and parking is scarce, so it is recommended to use public transport to get there (tram or city bus line 43). In addition, the circulation of bicycles outside the main path is prohibited.

ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN

At the same time, the City Council offers different environmental educational proposals aimed at schools in Zaragoza. These schools have until September 15 to apply for a place.

In addition to the activities that take place in the Galacho de Juslibol itself, the educational offer also includes the programs “Discover the Green Infrastructure of your city”, “The Forest of the Zaragozanos”, “Network of agroecological school gardens”, “Stars Project for active mobility”, “Air quality control network” or the various proposals of the Water and Environment Documentation Center (CDAMAZ). There are also visits to learn about the Air Quality Control Network, the Municipal Institute of Public Health laboratory, the Integrated Water Cycle or the Urban Waste Treatment Center.

All of them are part of the Municipal Program of Educational Activities for School Children 2024-2024 and can be consulted in the Environmental Educational Program 2024-2025.
