It has 43 inhabitants and seems straight out of Disney: the beautiful village of Aragon at the foot of a swamp

Located in a dreamlike landscape in the province of Huesca , there is a small corner in Aragon that seems to have come straight out of a Disney story. This place, with just 43 inhabitants, surprises travelers with its charm, its history and the natural environment that surrounds it. At the foot of a swamp, this town  in Aragon is a perfect example of how nature and architecture can coexist in perfect harmony.

Located in the Tena Valley, Lanuza is an ideal place for lovers of photography, nature and, above all, tranquility. It offers a unique experience for those looking to escape the city and find an almost magical atmosphere.

However, it was not always the paradise it is known as today. This small village was on the verge of disappearing under water due to the construction of a reservoir in the 1970s. Thanks to the efforts of its former residents, it was “rescued” and restored, returning its original beauty.

LANUZA, THE VILLAGE THAT SEEMS TO BE TAKEN OUT OF A DISNEY STORY

Lanuza, with its stone houses and dark roofs, is one of those places that seems to have stopped time. Located on the banks of the reservoir of the same name, this town is surrounded by mountains.

What is most striking about Lanuza is its picturesque appearance, reminiscent of the settings of classic Disney films. But this town is not just a place to admire. It is also an ideal starting point for exploring the natural surroundings of the Tena Valley and enjoying outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling or even water sports in the reservoir.

WHAT TO SEE IN LANUZA

One of the main attractions of Lanuza is its traditional architecture. Walking through its narrow, cobbled streets allows you to discover houses that preserve their Pyrenean style, with balconies decorated with flowers and impressive views of the reservoir. The church of San Salvador is another key point of the town, with its tower that dominates the landscape and becomes an excellent place for a souvenir photo.

The Lanuza reservoir is, of course, a must-see place. Its deep blue water offers a spectacular contrast to the surrounding mountains. In summer, it is even possible to enjoy activities such as kayaking or paddle surfing.

In addition, during the month of July, the reservoir hosts the famous Pirineos Sur Festival, a musical event held on a floating stage, which attracts artists and spectators from all over the world.

HOW TO GET TO THE VILLAGE OF LANUZA

Lanuza is located in the Tena Valley, in the Aragonese Pyrenees, in the province of Huesca. Getting to the town is easy by car or public transport.

If you are travelling from Zaragoza, take the A-23 towards Huesca and then continue on the N-330 to Sabiñánigo. From there, continue on the A-136 road until the turnoff for Lanuza. The journey from Zaragoza takes approximately two and a half hours.

By public transport, you can take a bus from Zaragoza or Huesca to Sallent de Gállego, the nearest neighbouring village to Lanuza. From there, you can get there by taxi or even on foot, as there are only 5 kilometres between the two villages.
